According to Ayurveda traditions, every substance in the universe is a combination of five elements (space, air, fire, water, and earth) which forms the basis of human’s biological energies, known as 'doshas'. The 'doshas' are classified into three categories:
Vata Dosha – Space & Wind Elements Pitta Dosha – Fire & Water Elements Kapha Dosha – Water & Earth Elements
Every person is born with a unique combination of the three doshas. All three doshas are always present but generally one or more will predominate giving rise to certain psychological, physical traits, and behaviors. Health is maintained when the three doshas are balanced via a personalized regime of diet, lifestyle, activities, and other health living practices.
